Jan Glazewski is a Professor in the Institute of Marine and Environmental Law at the University of Cape Town where he has been teaching and publishing in the area of marine and environmental law since 1986.
Phoebe’s work is about why some species are more vulnerable to environmental change than others, what birds can tell us about ecosystem health and human well-being, how species move across fragmented landscapes in response to climate and land-use change, and what options we have to help them persist through the next few difficult centuries.
As director of the Plant Conservation Unit (PCU), Timm Hoffman is interested in how land use practices, particularly over the last 100 years, have impacted on the biodiversity and landscapes of the succulent Karoo, Nama-Karoo and fynbos biomes in South Africa.
I am an academic staff member in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town. My interests are in natural resource commons in Southern Africa with particular focus on the intersection of local people, the State, conservation and protected areas.
I am an urban social and cultural geographer with ongoing research interests through Urban Food Security as part of the CIDA funded AFSUN programme (AFSUN website) and the Formas funded 'Ways of Knowing' project, which aims to use interdisciplinary approaches to reflect on the values inherent in the management of green spaces in urban areas.
Anton is an economist with Masters degrees in Development Economics and Environmental Change and Management respectively. Anton is currently completing his PhD at the University of Cape Town exploring the interface between economic theory and the green economy.
My research circles around various aspects of the city; how to theorise it from the vantage point of emergent urbanisms in the global South but also how to think about meaningful policy discourses and interventions to make the city more just, open and accessible for all who choose to make it a place of dwelling or a node in an ongoing journey.
Clifford Shearing is the Chair of Criminology and Director of the Centre of Criminology, Faculty of Law, University of Cape Town. He also holds the South African National Research Foundation Chair in Security and Justice.
